Help for transplant recipients

The Gift of Life Foundation provides direct assistance to transplant recipients through the Williams Memorial Grant Fund, as well as giving money to social workers to use for their patients.

Shirley Chancellor, a liver transplant recipient, says the assistance has been a life-saver. “It just makes all the difference,” the Fountain, Mich., resident said. “I was trying to figure out how to pay all of the bills and my immunosuppressive medicines and now I need new glasses. I am so grateful for this help.”

Chancellor says her transplant has enabled her to continue to serve on two school boards in her community, on the Village Council and as a volunteer EMT and firefighter. Most importantly, it has allowed her to spend time with her three grandsons, ages 8, 6 and 2 – including two that she never would have lived to see were it not for transplant.

“This has been a miracle for me,” she says.

“I am thankful every day. I keep telling myself it’s a beautiful
day, even when it’s a little gloomy outside.”
